The Origin Story
Spiderman is the secret identity of Peter Benjamin Parker, one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic superheroes.
Created By: Writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko
First Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962)
The Bite That Changed Everything:
- Age 15: High school student Peter Parker attends a science exhibition
- Radioactive spider from the demonstration bites him
- Peter becomes ill but then discovers amazing new abilities
- Gains superhuman strength, speed, agility, and the ability to cling to walls
The Tragic Loss That Defined Him
Uncle Ben’s Death: After gaining his powers, Peter initially uses them for personal gain—entering wrestling competitions and becoming a TV personality to make money. One night, a burglar runs past him, and Peter arrogantly refuses to stop him.
The Twist: That same burglar later kills his Uncle Ben.
The Lesson: Devastated and guilt-ridden, Peter learns the most important lesson of his life:
“With great power comes great responsibility.”
From that moment on, Peter Parker dedicates his life to fighting crime as Spider-Man, protecting New York City and honoring his uncle’s memory.
